Il mio viaggio nella Diocesi di Rutana, in Burundi, è nato dal racconto di amici e da un profondo desiderio di costruire qualcosa di concreto. Prima ancora di partire per l’Africa, ho avuto la fortuna di incontrare Padre Felix qui in Italia, durante una sua visita. È stato lui, con i suoi racconti appassionati, ad accendere in me la scintilla di questo progetto. Insieme a un gruppo di amici abbiamo dato vita a “BurundInsieme”, un’associazione che si propone di realizzare progetti di cooperazione, due in particolare la collaborazione nel costruire un orfanotrofio e la coltivazione degli avocado.
Nonostante l’entusiasmo, prima della partenza mi assalivano mille dubbi: cosa avrei fatto? Quale sarebbe stato il mio contributo? Sarei stato all’altezza? Ma la voglia di partire ha prevalso, convinto che avrei trovato il mio posto.
E così è stato. Le mie competenze informatiche si sono rivelate preziose. L’incontro con Padre Felix mi aveva già illuminato: avrei dovuto sistemare un portale web, aiutando la comunità di Rutana ad entrare nel “metaverso” e a far conoscere le proprie peculiarità.
Il cuore del mio viaggio è stato l’incontro con Padre Benedetto il responsabile dell’ufficio di Comunicazioni Sociali della Diocesi di Rutana e due giovani collaboratori.
Lì ho toccato con mano le difficoltà quotidiane: l’accesso limitato a computer e social network, la mancanza di tempo per studiare, la priorità di affrontare la sopravvivenza.
Ho dedicato ogni mia energia ad affiancarli, trasmettendo le mie conoscenze informatiche con pazienza e passione. Desideravo renderli autonomi nell’uso degli strumenti digitali, affinché potessero amplificare il loro messaggio di aiuto e raggiungere un pubblico più vasto. È stata un’esperienza di condivisione profonda, un vero e proprio scambio di saperi che ha arricchito entrambi. Oltre alle continue interruzioni di corrente e alla connessione internet precaria, abbiamo dovuto affrontare anche la barriera linguistica: io non parlavo francese e loro non capivano l’italiano. Con gesti, disegni e tanta buona volontà, siamo riusciti a comprenderci e a superare ogni ostacolo. La loro voglia di imparare e la mia determinazione a insegnare hanno trasformato ogni piccolo successo in una grande vittoria.
Ho cercato di renderli il più possibile autonomi, costruendo un portale web e proponendo un gemellaggio con la Diocesi di Sora-Cassino-Aquino-Pontecorvo, dove collaboro con l’ufficio Comunicazioni Sociali. Un gemellaggio virtuale per accorciare le distanze e comunicare, anche stando in Italia.
A distanza di mesi, il Burundi mi chiama di nuovo. Sento già il profumo intenso della terra rossa, il calore del sole sulla pelle e il ritmo incalzante dei tamburi. Sto organizzando il mio ritorno, con la valigia piena di nuovi progetti e il cuore colmo di speranza. So che quello che farò sarà solo una goccia nel mare, ma spero che le onde generate da quella goccia, come cerchi concentrici, si allarghino e raggiungano il cuore di ognuno di voi.
